Journey to the beginning

We shall not cease from exploration,

And the end of all our exploring

Will be to arrive where we started

And know the place for the first time.

TS Eliot

Everyday we are working towards a future goal. This future goal could be something to be done tomorrow, a month after, or may be a year after. Planning for new future experiences is a highly exhilarating and mentally engaging activity. We wait with earnest for the day when our long awaited goal will be fulfilled. Sometimes the wait is short and at other times long. However by the time we reach our many goals, time has passed. The world and everything around us has moved on, taken new shapes and perhaps also discovered new definitions of the same thing.

It seems that we do everything to either satisfy a past or future self of ours and never truly live in the present moment. The past self is our self image at a point in time which has past and a future self is our self image at a future point in time. Why do we derive satisfaction from a fixed self image in a world where everything is in a flux and changing all the time.
